Matt Campbell has joined an exclusive club reserved for some of Penn State’s highest-profile coaches.
Popular State College area restaurant The Field Burger & Tap on Thursday unveiled the newest addition to its “Coach’s Corner” menu, a signature burger designed by the new leader of Nittany Lion football.
“Coach Campbell’s Roman Burger” includes a beef patty topped with salami, mortadella, white cheddar, arugula, tomato, onion, mayo and Italian dressing on a brioche roll.
Penn State football teased the new creation on Feb. 23 with a social media video showing Campbell at The Field talking to staff and taste-testing burgers.
It replaces “The Coach Franklin,” a much different burger created for former Penn State football coach James Franklin with a turkey patty, arugula, tomato, olive tapenade and goat cheese on a whole-grain roll. It was removed from The Field’s menu when Franklin was fired last fall.
Campbell’s concoction joins those of other Penn State coaches on the menu, including Lady Lion basketball coach Carolyn Kieger’s “Juicy Lucy,” women’s soccer coach Erica Dambach’s “The Dambach-ery,” men’s hockey coach Guy Gadowsky’s “The Big Gadowsky,” and women’s volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley’s “Coach Katie’s Craft”
The Field, located at 1 Country Club Lane and part of Toftrees Golf Resort in Patton Township, is a favored dining destination for many Penn State teams. It is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
